Obituary for John Ordille

John  Ordille
John Ordille, 92, of Northfield passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, surrounded by his family and dogs.

He was born in Pleasantville on November 19, 1921 to John B and Santa Ordille. He attended Pleasantville Schools, graduating from Pleasantville High School in 1940 where he was linebacker on the football team. He also spent two years attending the University of Texas then went on to Roosevelt Aviation School where he received his pilot and mechanics certifications and went into the Navy Reserve. From there he went overseas during World War II, repairing airplanes in the Azores, Newfoundland and Iceland, finally ending up in Berlin. He was one of the first people at the Berlin Airport after the war.

He was employed for over 45 years with the Federal Wine and Liquor Company which became Fedway Associates where he was a wine and liquor wholesaler serving many establishments in South Jersey.

John was an avid golfer and past member of Somers Point CC (now Greate Bay), Atlantic City CC and Buena Vista CC. He was also a former member and past president of the Mainland Rotary Club and frequently attended the Ed Nichterlein Wednesday lunch group at Essl’s Dugout.

He was a longtime member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Northfield where he served as an usher for many years.

He is predeceased by his wife Leila (Crawford) of 46 years; together they enjoyed traveling to Europe, The Bahamas, Lancaster and Puerto Rico. He is also predeceased by brothers Henry, Lewis, Matteo and sister Marie. He is survived by his sister Ann Jannetty, 102, of Massachusetts; son, John (Idza) of Northfield, NJ; three grandsons, Kyle (Nicole) of Severn, Md, John and David; and one great grandson Matthew who he never got the chance to hold.

A service of Death and Resurrection will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church with visitation one hour before. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Church Building Fund, 207 Northfield Avenue, Northfield, NJ 08225.
