Obituary for Charles F Zeitschel Jr.

Zeitschel, Charles F., Jr. - 93, passed away peacefully with members of his family and Holy Redeemer Hospice by his side on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Shore Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Mays Landing, NJ.

He was a construction superintendent and vice president of Massett Building Company at one time, and was awarded a life membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over fifty years of continuous membership. For forty years he was co-owner of Z’s Tree Farm with his wife of 70 years. After graduating from Atlantic City High School in 1939, Charles attended the Casey-Jones Aeronautical School and worked for the Civil Service where he was an aeronautical instructor at the Rome Air Depot in Rome, NY.

He served in the U.S Army and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, and later served in the Air Reserves until 1955.

He was predeceased by his father, Charles F. Zeitschel Sr.; mother Matila (Dresner) Zeitschel; sister Ethel (Zeitschel) Haye; brother-in-law Helmut Haye; and grandson Jeremy T. Zeitschel.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carolyn (Goodson) Zeitschel; son Charles III (Jane) of Little Egg Harbor, NJ; daughter Kathleen Watkins (Larry) of Tuckerton, NJ; son Walter Zeitschel (Cher Woehl) of Frederick, MD; daughter Sharon Zeitschel of Mays Landing, NJ; three grandchildren, Monique (Zeitschel) Romanelli, Lauren Hart, Christopher Hart; four great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

As the general contractor superintendent for Massett he managed the construction of Caesar’s Casino in Atlantic City, Atlantic City Convention Hall Annex, Vineland High School, and the two Prudential buildings in Millville and Northfield to name a few. He loved to work in his garden, tend to his Christmas trees, and travel with his wife, Carolyn, in their RV where they visited 49 of the 50 states, and the Canadian Provinces.

A private funeral service was held at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. Interment was held at Laurel Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Veterans organization.
