Obituary for Theresa Dallackiesa
Dallackiesa, Theresa (nee Larcher), 92, of Egg Harbor Township, passed away peacefully at her home on May 13, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1924 to late Virginio and Rosina Larcher, Austrian immigrants. She studied nursing at the Brooklyn Hospital and soon after married Benjamin Dallackiesa in 1945. They relocated to Vineland , NJ to start their family. A few years later, they moved again to Egg Harbor Township to raise their three children.
Benjamin became a mechanic and volunteer fireman, while Theresa became a nurse and an active member of the Bargaintown Fire Company, where she served as an awarded member of the Woman’s Auxiliary for over 55 years. She spent a fulfilled nursing career in various nursing homes in our area. Always going over and above to make her patients feel special and loved. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows for many years.
She was a Hallmark version of what a mother and grandmother should be. Always ready with a cup of tea, cake, or a bowl of chicken soup. Theresa could be found knitting blankets and booties throughout her retirement. Always ready to nurse her family to health any hour of the day. She loved to play pinochle with “the girls” (Iva and Jeanette) and also at the EHT Senior Center.
Our grandmother’s life has been filled with love and tragedy. She lived through the Great Depression, Prohibition, many wars, the loss of her husband, and all her children. Through it all, she always found a way to smile and move forward. This is a life worth celebrating. Theresa will be sadly missed by so many.
She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Dallackiesa, Sr.; daughter, Diane and her husband Will Sutherland; son, Benjamin Dallackiesa, Jr.; daughter, Janet Flanagan; granddaughter, Cheryl Sutherland; sister, Lee; and brother Junior. Theresa is survived by her sister, Rita Skelly (nee Larcher); grandchildren, Michael Flanagan (Jackie Masters), Brian Flanagan (Jane), Jason Flanagan (Melanie), Joseph Dallackiesa, Benjamin Dallackiesa (Melissa Kagen), and Chris Sutherland; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Eric, Emma, Aberdeen , and Aethan; many nieces and nephews; lifelong friends, the Pagano Family, Maria Bohle, Laurie, Patty, and many many more.
