Obituary for Eleanor Lonergan Davis

Eleanor Lonergan Davis
Eleanor Frances (Lonergan) Davis, age 88, passed away in peace in her Somers Point home, on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 holding the hand of her beloved son, Rex Davis, II.
Born on January 1, 1929, in Philadelphia, Ellie moved to Ocean City as a teenager looking for a summer job, and found not only a job, but a lifelong friendship with Mrs. Jean B. Campbell, and with Mrs C's family, of the Chatterbox Restaurant. She worked for Mrs. C at the Chatterbox for the next ten years, and then expanded her career to work in the Atlantic County school system as a secretary in the Atlantic City Schools Food Administration Office.
Ellie especially enjoyed holidays with her family, playing cards with her nephew Bruce, his wife Linda, and their children Michelle, Matthew, and Billy. Their summer trips to stay with her were the highlights of her year.
She was known as an avid Phillies fan. Whether she watched on TV or attended the games as a season pass holder, Ellie could talk baseball with anyone, even as her illness progressed.
Her life is marked by her selfless giving, patient presence, and willingness to listen, and her smile and laughter made everyone feel welcome and loved.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Frances Lonergan, her brothers, Elmer and Edward Lonergan, her son Thomas Ross Davis, and her daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Smiley. She is survived by her son, Rex Davis, II, and her ex-husband and dear friend, Rex Davis, Sr.
A special thanks to the exceptional care provided by the many caregivers from Atlantic Cape Home Care, especially Sharon Stein, Melody Righter, Keisha Davis, and Jeanette Wolbert, as well as the support of Samaritan Hospice. The family deeply appreciates their kind attention and skill in maintaining Ellie’s desire to remain home in her final years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Phillies Charities, Inc. One Citizens Bank Way, Philadelphia, PA 19148 in memory of Eleanor Davis. A Christian service is to be held at 7 pm Thursday evening July 6th at the Adams Perfect Funeral Home 1650 New Road, Northfield, NJ. Relatives and Friends may gather with the family from 6pm until the time of the service.
