Obituary for Donald W Schoellkopf

Print
Donald W. Schoellkopf passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 13th, 2017, at the age of 90, with his wife and family at his bedside helping him to continue his journey home. Don was born at home in Camden and lived in Oaklyn, NJ before settling in Margate. He eventually retired to Palm Bay, Florida before returning to New Jersey and spending the last 13 years at his home in Weymouth. Don was a Seabee (Naval Construction Battalion “We build, we fight”) in the United States Navy and a Veteran of World War II. He met the love of his life, Mary Carol Wilson, while employed at Prudential Insurance Company as an Insurance Adjuster and Consultant, and later became her husband and father to her three young children. Don enjoyed vacationing in Ocean City, MD and Florida. He loved spending time growing award winning tomatoes and vegetables in his garden, eating crabs, and watching his beloved Eagles play football with his great friend “Chef John” and his buddies (Fly, Eagles, Fly!). He was always keen for a competitive game of pinochle with his “card friends” and spent earlier years bowling on various leagues. He loved taking road trips to Eagles games with his son-in-law, Jay. He was often seen bundled in his Eagles parka at many street hockey and lacrosse games for his grandsons. His eyes lit up whenever one of his grandaughters entered the room. He was so proud of all of his grandchildren and his happiest times were at “parties” with the people he loved. Don is predeceased by his parents Elsie (Hyatt) and John, brother John (Jack), sister Janet (Jordan), and recently, his faithful companion, Mitzi. Don is survived by his loving wife, Carol, who never left his side throughout his declining health, his sons, Steven Rosenberg (Nicole) of Florida, John Mignogna (Holly) of Somers Point, daughters, Carol Nofer (Jay) of Erial, and Kim Baumgartel (Chris) of Egg Harbor Township, his grandchildren, Alexa Rosenberg, Kelsey and Brooke Nofer, Christopher, Andrew, and Grace Baumgartel, and his sister in laws, Mary Schoellkopf of Georgia, Linda (Lee) Woods of Pennington, and Patricia Wilson of Warminster, PA. He will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. Don lived his entire 90 years fully and we like to remember Don best by this quote, “Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting Wow….what a ride!” Don had quite a ride and we can only aspire to live life to it’s fullest as he did. A graveside service will be held at the Atlantic County Veteran’s Cemetery in Estell Manor on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. Arrangements made by Adams Perfect Funeral Homes. Condolences may be left at www.adams-perfect.com.
