Obituary for Helen Elizabeth Upper (Smith)

Helen Elizabeth Upper (Smith)
Helen “Bicky” Upper passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 90 on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. She was born in Pleasantville, NJ on July 24, 1927. Helen is reunited with the love of her life, her husband Ralph. She is also pre-deceased by her parents, Helen and Charles, her sister Evelyn, and her brothers Charles Jr. (Bud) and Forrest (Jerry). Helen attended Pleasantville High School, was an operator for Bell Telephone, and helped with the operation of her family business, Upper Fence. She loved to sing in Sweet Adelines and St. Bernadette’s choir. She was a loyal listener to local news-talk radio station, WOND and loved to call in to answer trivia questions! She was so sharp-minded that when she had restless nights, instead of counting sheep she would say the name of each and every grandchild, niece, nephew, their spouses, and children.

Helen is survived by her sons David of Pleasantville and Stephen of Florida, her 96-year-old sister and best friend Doris, two grandchildren, and many other family members and friends. Helen will be deeply missed by her “right hand companion”/great-niece, Julianne and great-grandpuppy, Peanut!

Friends and family are invited for a small viewing Monday, November 6, 2017 at , 9:00 am at St. Gianna Parish, 1421 New Rd, Northfield, NJ, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will be held at Atlantic County Veteran's Cemetery in Estell Manor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity, just as Helen generously donated to countless charities over the years.
