Condolence: When John came into the 1st BN he fit right in. He was a excellent Artilleryman, a leader and instructor. I knew after working with him, that one day he was on the career track for CSM. As a friend we had many good times with him and his wife Lee. Although the list is long of the people I missed when I retired, John was in the top ten! John, you will be missed and never forgotten!

Condolence: To John's family, so sorry for your loss. Lee, your husband use to pick up my dad everyday to work his construction business I know you must remember, He fondly called my dad Bubba, he spent many many days at my parents house growing up, he was the one that actually coined the name for my father and loved him very much, my dad is going to be the hospital and can not pay his final respects to him which hurts very very much, they are very fond of each other. Now we go back to the beginning, Donna went to school with my sister Kathleen, Larry John and I all went to school together, grew up together. and George was a little too young when we were running around, but him and I also became friends when we got older and the little age gap no longer was there, I remember swimming in the pool, playing pool with the boys in the basement at the Humpreys' house. My thoughts and prays are with you all.

Condolence: CSM, I met you at 17 years old as a private in the 112th FA. I was always amazed at how you looked exactly the same in 2018 as you did in 1994! You were always always about taking care of Soldiers. You were the consummate NCO and Soldier advocate. You were the definition of a ‘CSM.’ My sincerest condolences to your family. And hopefully the outpouring of love, respect and admiration will ease their pain and assist them in their healing process. LTC Dowgin

Condolence: My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Humphreys family. John was an incredible man that placed the needs of his fellow service members before his own. He was always about taking care of Soldiers and this was evident in everything he did. He taught us so much throughout our time with him and we will forever be grateful for that. He wasn't only a fellow Soldier but he was a very good friend to all of us. Although losing him is difficult, he left us all a lasting legacy that will only make us better. We miss him deeply and will always cherish his laughter, good will, and friendship.

Condolence: My deepest condolences, Here lies a great man who has left a wonderful legacy behind. He was larger then life as he lived it to the fullest. CSM was not only a great leader but was someone that would take the time out of his day and listen to our concerns. I had the opportunity to serve overseas with this man and let me tell you sitting on the porch at night smoking cigars and having a great time. CSM had left an ever lasting impression on everyone that has came in contact with him. I am sorry for your lose but just know he will never be forgotten. Till we meet again. Love you
