Obituary for Hylen Calcerano

Calcerano, Hylen V., 87- of Pleasantville, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017.

She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Calcerano. Born and raised in Wolf Summit, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Arnett and Etta Mae Burnside. Hylen graduated in 1951 from Salem College in West Virginia, where she would meet her husband John, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in both Physical Education and Home Economics. While in school, she was also the treasurer of the Women’s Athletic Association and vice-president of Theta Epsilon Chi. After moving to Pleasantville, she became a substitute teacher and homemaker.

Hylen was loving, caring, smart and witty. She loved talking about her days growing up in West Virginia. Over the years, she enjoyed square dancing, sewing, baking, going to the boardwalk, playing slot machines, taking care of her grandchildren and working on crossword puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Helen Burns and Carol Lloyd; and her brother, Arnett Ray Burnside. She is survived by her three children, Teresa Coyle (John); John Calcerano (Carol); and Jayne Calcerano; her grandchildren Jodi Beck (Brian), Andrea Nicholson (Roger), Sara Calcerano, Megan Calcerano and Nicholas Pomnitz (Stephanie); and her great-grandchildren Gavin, Erin, Kaylee, Molly, Carl and Myles. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Sarah Boney and Rose Wachter; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 20th from 9am-11am followed by a service at 11am at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. Interment will be held at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hylen’s memory to the Casey Coyle
Memorial Fund, 800 Flora Court, Galloway, NJ 08205.
