Obituary for Douglas W. Irwin Sr.

Douglas W. Irwin Sr.
Irwin, Douglas W., Sr. (Cookie) - of Northfield, passed away on February 20th, 2012.

Born in Staten Island, NY, he grew up in Pleasantville and attended Pleasantville High School. He then settled in Northfield, where he raised his family. Doug proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. After his discharge, Doug was a business owner and also spent much of his life self-employed as a commercial clammer.

Doug was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, especially the Phillies and Eagles. He took great joy in coaching his sons in the Northfield football and baseball programs while they were growing up, and watching them continue to play for the Mainland Mustangs. Doug could often be seen at the Atlantic City Race Track where he loved participating in the "Sport of Kings".

Doug is predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret "Peggy" Irwin (nee Sours); son Kevin; and brother Ken. Doug is survived by his son, Douglas, Jr. (Eileen); grandchildren Danielle, Courtney, Douglas III, Andrew, and Ryan Irwin; and great-granddaughter Skylar Littley.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, February 25th from 10:00am to 11:00am at St. Gianna Beretta Molla Parish/St. Bernadette's Church, 1421 New Road, Northfield, NJ. A Mass will follow at 11:00am.
