Obituary for Eugenia M. Kancy (Murphy)

Eugenia M. Kancy (Murphy)
KANCY, EUGENIA (NEE MURPHY) ~ 77, of Egg Harbor Township (formerly of Absecon), passed away in the loving and caring arms of her daughter, Louise, on September 11, 2017. She was born in Atlantic City, and the daughter of Bernard and Marion Murphy, and Pearl Risley McElroy. Jean graduated from Pleasantville High, Class of 1957. She loved traveling and creating astrology charts. She was an avid reader, loved history, and the penny slot machines. She enjoyed shopping immensely, always buying something for someone other than herself with the exception of her grandchildren whom she could never do enough. Jean had a contagious smile and her heart was always in the right place. She was giving and thoughtful and generous to a fault and loved helping others. She was a wonderful mother and loyal friend. Jean started her work career at Guarantee Bank in Atlantic City followed with Garwood Mills, the Melody Lounge and State Farm, finishing her career at Harrah's Hotel Casino. Her favorite job, that she talked about often, was at the Needlepoint where she once dreamed of becoming a fashion buyer of high quality clothing.

Jean will be forever remembered by her four devoted children, Barbara Dahl, and Louise, Rick and Jeff Kancy; her four grandchildren, Scott and Stephanie Thorley-Kancy, and Matthew and Lauren Kancy; her daughter-in-law, Catherine Kancy; her former husband, Richard Kancy; and life partner, Bob Scheuerman.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 19th at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home in Northfield with visitation at 10am. Burial will be private. The Kancy family is deeply appreciative to Jack Stretch for his loving care and support to our mother. She loved Jack to pieces. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jean may make a memorial gift to the Atlantic County Humane Society in Pleasantville.
