Our Heritage - Adams-Perfect Funeral Homes

Our Heritage

Mr. Elisha Steelman Adams was a carpenter and undertaker. He directed funerals from his home in 1902 at 21 South Second Street, which was across from the old railroad station in 1800.

Five years later he and his wife, Anna S. Blackman moved to a house at 5 N. Second Street, which was built in 1853 and formerly owned by the late renown Halvor Harley, M.D. Funerals have been held there ever since.

In 1957, the business was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Francis D. Perfect. Mr. Adams passed away in 1962 and was entombed in Pleasantville Cemetery.

Frank Perfect was born in Croton, Ohio in 1921 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corp. in World War II. He married Merion E. Bourne and attended Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia. He worked in area funeral homes until he purchased Adams-Perfect Funeral Home. His uncle and great uncles operated funeral homes in Ohio in the 1800's and 1900's. He raised six children and has 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Keystone Masonic Lodge No. 153. Francis  passed away on July 26, 2015 at the age of 93.
