Kiefer, Virginia L. (nee Smith) 85, of Chelsea Heights, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 10th at Royal Suites Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Galloway. She was born in Atlantic City, NJ on July 12, 1929, daughter of the late Vivian Smith. Virginia was predeceased by her husband Henry B. Kiefer, Sr. whom was laid to rest December 2010, and her eldest daughter, Virginia L. Kiefer Mead, January 2015.
Mrs. Kiefer’s character was noble and strong. She centered her affection upon her family and made the home an embodiment of virtue and happiness. Virginia was always kind and charitable.
Virginia was a roller skating enthusiast who met the love of her life Henry, at the Ventnor Skating rink. Her love for skating led her to compete in skate dancing. She and her husband continued to skate well into their 70’s at Young’s Skating Center, Mays Landing, NJ.
Virginia resided in Linwood, raising her family there for 35 years. She was involved in community activities, including coaching the Linwood Panthers Cheerleading Squads and teaching Sunday School at Central United Methodist Church for numerous years.
Virginia and Henry were active members of the Seagulls Ski Club, frequenting Pico Mt., Mt. Snow and Killington, VT. Virginia’s deep love of the outdoors lead to the design and construction of their dream house on the Ventnor Bay. Their Ventnor home was full of joy and laughter of family and friends enjoying the decks and docks, swimming, boating, jet skiing and barbecues.
She is survived by her brother, Harry Smith (Betty); children, Hank Kiefer, Jr. (Constance), Penny Fillmore (Walt) and Holly Meuse (John). Virginia is also survived by her grandchildren, Stacey Gross (Dave), Todd Kriss (Maria), Corey Kriss (Karen), Shauna May (Steve), Shaun Meuse (Tammy), Nicole Meuse (Jimmy), Kristel Fillmore (Jim) and Ashley Fillmore (Michael). Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Tabatha and Audrey Gross and Brendan Meuse Manvell.
In addition, Virginia is predeceased by her siblings; brothers, Wesley, Pete and Jack; and her sisters, Honey Caniglio, Betty Whitaker, Dot Smith and Barbara Hendrickson.
Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, beloved by all and will be sorely missed.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Virginia’s Life Celebration on Friday, February 20th from 10-11am at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road in Northfield where a service will begin at 11am. Interment will be held at Laurel Memorial Park in Pomona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Kiefer’s name may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, in honor of her grandson.
