Obituary for Donald T. Kelly

Kelly, Donald T. "Poppy", 76 of Northfield, passed away on Sunday, October 12th at AtlantiCare, Mainland Division,surrounded by his family.

He was born at home in Cardiff, NJ to Bernard and Mary (nee Carman) Kelly on May 3, 1938. He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1956. He was a former employee of Atlantic City Electric, where he worked as a supervisor of heavy hauling and retired in 1993. Over the years, he worked for Pro Auto Recycling, Palombo's Pharmacy, and most recently, Jersey Shore Pharmacy in Galloway.

As a young man, he was very active in the Atlantic County Mens Baseball League. He was a past member of the Somers Point Marine Unit. He loved boating, family trips out west, horseback riding, woodworking, and bicycling. He was a Celtics fan, and an avid New York Yankees fan. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy (nee Hackney), and together they had four children: Vicki Kelly, Brenda Allen-Diou, Donald Kelly, Jr. (Diane), and Diana Baumgartner (Harry). He also had five grandchildren: Craig Allen (Melissa), Nicole Continisio (Chris), Melissa Baumgartner (Catlin Goarcke), Daniel Baumgartner, and Allison Baumgartner. He had one great granddaughter, Savannah Allen. He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Kisby; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Anna Kelly; and his brother, John "Jack" Kelly.

During his illness, he never lost his wit and sense of humor. He handled his last days with grace and dignity. He was more than a husband, father and grandfather, he was a best friend.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 11:00am at Central United Methodist Church, Shore Road and Central Avenue, Linwood. A viewing will be held from 9:00am until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be held in Friends Cemetery, Linwood.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Donald's memory to Central United Methodist Church.
