Obituary for Edward E. Egnor

Edward E.  Egnor
Egnor, Capt. Edward E., 85 of Egg Harbor Township, set sail on his final journey to be with the Lord on July 23, 2015 in the company of his loving family.

Born in Atlantic City, he was the son of George and Helen (nee Sweeney) Egnor, attended Holy Spirit Schools, and was a lifetime area resident. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers William Egnor and John Egnor.

He served proudly in the US Navy in Korea on the USS Strong and was a disabled veteran.

Ed obtained his hundred ton captain's license at a very young age and held it for over 50 years. He worked as a commercial fisherman, sightseeing and fishing boat captain at Capt. Starns, and delivered luxury vessels to their new owners up and down the east coast. He was also a decorator for McCalls Display Service. He was an avid fisherman and viewed the ocean as a second home.

Ed belonged to the Brigantine Elks Club, the VFW, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was also a longtime member of the Absecon Saltwater Sportsman Club and the GABT, helping to raise money for the Greater Atlantic Cancer Fund. Up until a few years ago he enjoyed country dancing several times a week, which is where he met his wife. He had a great affinity for children and his favorite pastime became enjoying family gatherings and celebrations.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his children, Eileen Lidle (Jeffrey), Edward Egnor, Jr., Bruce Egnor, and Suzanne Errickson (Tim); and stepchildren Patricia Matthewson and Robert Hauser. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 724 Maple Avenue, Linwood. A viewing will be held from 10:00am until the time of the mass. Burial will follow in Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona.
