Obituary for Ernest T Ianni

Ernest T Ianni
Ianni, Ernest T. of Linwood, NJ passed away peacefully on June 13, 2016 at the age of 91. Ernie ("Doc" as he was known by his close family and friends) was born on July 24, 1924, in Wilmington, Delaware to Mary (Cantera) and Ernest Ianni. He attended Wilmington High School and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After serving in the Navy he attended the University of Delaware and graduated in 1950 with a degree in civil engineering. In 1956, Ernie married Madeline Zappulla.
Ernie and Madeline lived in Alexandria, VA for a short time where their first daughter, Carolyn, was born. They moved to Penns Grove, NJ and their second daughter, Patricia, was born in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1959, they moved to Cherry Hill, NJ, where they raised their two daughters and lived for 33 years. During those years, Ernie worked as a Professional Engineer for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command at the Philadelphia Naval Base. After retiring, Ernie and Madeline moved to Linwood, NJ in 1992, where they enjoyed many happy years of retirement at the Jersey Shore and loved strolling on the Ocean City boardwalk.
In his youth, Ernie enjoyed working as a golf caddie. He loved swimming, especially “at the shore” during family vacations in Ocean City. While retired, he volunteered his construction engineering skills with Habitat for Humanity. He also enjoyed running, although he called himself a "jogger", and won race awards well into his 60s. He proudly ran the 1988 Atlantic City Boardwalk Runners’ St. Patrick's Day 10 miler with his two daughters. Ernie was a devoted family man, completely supportive of his wife and daughters, and he dearly loved his family dogs, Poochy and Cindy. He will be remembered as a sweet quiet soul with a gentle smile.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents, his brother-in-law, Arthur Pavoni Jr, his sister-in-law, Jean Nepa Ianni, and his oldest brother, Edmond Ianni.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years Madeline Ianni of Linwood, NJ, his daughter Carolyn (Ianni) VanDenbussche and her husband Jeff, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, his daughter Patricia Ianni and her husband Mark Sundermann, of Falmouth, Maine, his brother Raymond Ianni and his wife Connie, of Wilmington, Delaware, his sister Jean Pavoni of Wilmington, Delaware, and his nieces and nephews, Edmond Ianni, Raymond N. Ianni, Michael Ianni, Nicole Ianni, Carole Hofmann, Christine Papa, and Arthur Pavoni III.

Visitation for family and friends will be at 10:00 am on Friday June 17, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Poplar and Wabash Ave, Linwood, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, NJ. Funeral arrangements are by Adams-Perfect Funeral Home in Northfield, NJ.

The family sincerely thanks all of Ernie's caregivers at Brandall Estates, Visiting Angels, and Compassionate Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ernie may be made to Atlantic County Habitat for Humanity or to an animal charity of your choice.
