Obituary for Joyce E. Wilkinson (Gentile)

Joyce E. Wilkinson (Gentile)
JOYCE E. WILKINSON, 85 of Northfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24. Born in Nyack, New York, she was preceded in death by her father, John Gentile, who owned the Pleasantville Barber Shop, her mother, Mae Gentile, and her loving husband of 55 years, Albert Wilkinson, who was known as the unofficial “Mayor of Walnut Avenue.”

Joyce was a 1948 graduate of Pleasantville High School and had a long career as a bank teller in Pleasantville. She came out of retirement and found her green thumb planting flowers at Mazza’s Farm Market for several years, which brought her great joy.

Joyce was well-loved and is survived by her daughter Dianne Adams and her husband Bill, of Galloway Township; her son Albert Wilkinson and Connie Hand; her granddaughter Kaitlyn Woolford and her husband Matt, of Collingswood; her grandson, Dr. Sean Wilkinson and his mother, Gail Wilkinson; her devoted sister, Anna Mae Manning, of Absecon; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends and neighbors, including Lois “Lady Bird” Stockton.

Joyce loved to have a good time, including eating out and going to the casino. She loved having lunch at the Crab Trap with Ellen, Julie, and Lydia, and the Tilton Inn with Donna, Roy, Lorraine, and Brian. Her witty one-liners will be missed at Sunday dinners with Maggie, Ray, Joy, Sharon, and Kelly. Although time and disease may have diminished her physically, it could never take away her spirit and tenacity, which she held until the very end.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, July 30th at 10:00 am at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be held following the service at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Joyce may make a donation in her honor to the Northfield Volunteer Fire Company.
